The Longines Press Award for Elegance forges ahead

Longines’ most fundamental values are its experience and expertise in matters of precision and aesthetics. These are the values recognised and rewarded by the Longines Press Award for Elegance.

At each competition of the season, a male and female rider will be selected by a jury of dedicated journalists, based on criteria such as overall harmony between horse and rider, the elegance of the mounted rider and the general flow of the rider’s performance.

The female and male competitors earning the highest number of votes will be presented in Barcelona with the Longines Press Award for Elegance.

This unique prize, awarded in recognition of a rider’s elegance, brings a touch of sophistication to these top-level competitions by highlighting a closely linked qualities and gifts expressive of the rider’s personality, charm and charisma as well as the harmony between rider and horse. Like Longines watches, which unite precision, technology and refinement, this prize for elegance rewards the rider who best personifies the qualities in human and sporting terms and in relationship to his or her mount.

This year, which marks Longines’ 175th anniversary, the firm has created a new trophy, to be awarded to the winner of the Longines Press Award for Elegance. The trophy’s pure lines and style express the power and subtlety of the mount combined with precision and a keen sense of detail, and give the sculpture a strong and graceful air.

Selection criteria:

- General harmony between horse and rider
- Elegance and intrinsic style of the horse
- General fluidity of movement of the horse and rider as a single unit (in the style of the centaur, the combination of man and horse)
- Elegance of the rider’s style
- General fluidity of the round (regular pace, precise line, agility, ease and natural elegance at take-off and landing)

Additional criterion:

Favourite horse and rider pair: the horse and rider that best embody the spirit of Longines, regardless of the result, including fair play on the part of the rider. Win or lose with elegance: “Elegance is an attitude”
