Longines Press Award for Elegance 2008

Presentation

Ever since its inception in the year 2000, the Longines Prize for Elegance has been awarded for precision and style in equestrianism. These same qualities have been the force behind Longines’ history and achievements. In 2008, Longines will again award its unique prize, the Longines Press Award for Elegance, in recognition of elegance and taking into account performance, as Longines has reoriented itself in the world of sport.

The ten male and female riders who have won the most points by achieving the best results at the first six Super League events and who are competing at the CSIO Barcelona will be shortlisted. In Barcelona, at the final Super League event, a jury composed of international journalists will vote for the most elegant rider out of the twenty pre-selected male and female riders.

All the riders who compete at the six Super League events in which Longines is participating in 2008 will be taken into consideration. The ten male and female riders who have won the most points and compete at the CSIO Barcelona will be judged at the final stage in Barcelona.

The following Super League events are taken into consideration for the shortlist of 20 riders: CSIO La Baule in La Baule (France), CSIO Piazza di Siena in Rome (Italy), CSIO Schweiz in St. Gallen (Switzerland), CHIO Rotterdam in Rotterdam (Netherlands), Longines Royal International Horse Show in Hickstead (United Kingdom) and CSIO Dublin in Dublin (Ireland).

The jury will be composed of seven international journalists from the seven countries where the events take place (France, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ireland and Spain).

The most elegant male and female rider with the best performance of the 2008 competition season will each receive a cheque for 20,000 Swiss francs, a trophy and a set of Longines watches. The trophy’s pure lines and style express the power and subtlety of the mount combined with precision and a keen sense of detail, and lend the sculpture a strong, graceful quality.
