June
09 to 12, 2005 - European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships
2005 in Moscow, Russia
Longines chose Moscow’s Olympic Complex to announce
that it had concluded partnership agreements with three
talented young gymnasts – Dinara Gimatova of Azerbaijan,
Olga Kapranova of Russia and Aliya Yussupova of Kazakhstan – who
are the successors to Alina Kabaeva as Longines Ambassadresses
of Elegance. Longines President Walter von Känel and
celebrated rhythmic gymnastics coach Irina Viner were both
on hand for an announcement that signaled a new chapter
in Longines’ close and fruitful relationship with
gymnastics.
The athletic excellence, charm and elegance displayed by
this trio of young and promising gymnasts eloquently illustrates
the innate dynamics and thrust of their chosen discipline,
with which Longines’ own history has more than a
passing acquaintance. The sport’s specific demands – unrelenting
discipline, constant quest for improved smoothness of movement
transitions, exacting precision of execution, an obligation
to convince a demanding and knowledgeable public – all
are more than familiar challenges for Longines.
Little wonder, then, that a company born in the first
half of the 19th century can today come up with new collections
featuring any number of eye-catching models – designed
with the supple style, fluid lines and variety in execution
that recall the outstanding performance of the young
gymnasts with whom Longines is so proud to be associated.
