6th October, 2007 - Longines Sport Collection launch in conjunction with Singapore Sports Council at the historic Farrer Fark sports complex in Singapore

Longines has chosen to pay tribute to the iconic birthplace of contemporary sport in Singapore - Farrer Park, the birthplace of sports in Singapore with its rich heritage and tradition for the launch of its new Sport Collection. A heritage walk depicting Longines long and illustrious sport timekeeping involvement was kick start by Mr. Walter von Känel followed by the unveiling of Farrer Park Heritage boards.

Together with Singapore Sports Council, Longines has identified 8 of Singapore's sporting legends - Ang Peng Siong, Benedict Tan, C. Kunalan, Fandi Ahmad, Tan Howe Liang, Grace Young, Mardan Mamat and Theresa Goh to honour at this event. In recognition of their contribution to Singapore's sporting history, passion and exemplary character, Longines is honouring them with the "Longines Sport Captain Award", presenting them with a personalized Longines sport watch.

To mark this occasion, Longines has provided an annual grant to support and groom young sporting talents in Singapore. This is the first step of Longines' long term plan to help conserve and develop local sports. Mr. Walter von Känel, President of Longines International presented the cheque to Guest of Honour, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education & Second Minister for Finance and Mr. Oon Jin Teik, CEO of Singapore Sports Council.

Guests were treated to the likes of hawker food stalls of old Farrer Park days and a Swan Lake performance by the APSC Synchronised Swimming Team.
