The Longines Handicap Stakes at Ascot
Longines were delighted to enhance the association as the official timekeeper for the flat race season by sponsoring the ladies race on King George’s Day; The Longines Handicap Stakes.
The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes has established itself as one of the most prestigious middle distance races in the world. It is the second biggest race meeting after Royal Ascot and the Longines Handicap stakes is the most prestigious race for lady riders. The King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes is the most valuable race ever run at Ascot at £850,000.
The horses running in the Longines Handicap stakes sported branded Longines number cloths and prior to the race were taken around the parade ring for the judging of the “best turned out” horse. The winner of the Longines Handicap Stakes was Golden Desert (7) ridden by Katie Walsh, who was presented with a Longines ladies diamond Conquest watch. Katrina Jones (Longines UK Brand Director) wearing a couture hat from Philip Treacy presented the owners; Premiership footballer Mr Scott Parker and My John Humphreys with a Longines engraved crystal trophy and trainer Terry Mills with a bottle of champagne and engraved crystal champagne flutes.
