Based in Saint-Imier since 1832, the Compagnie des Montres Longines Francillon S.A. has always enjoyed a close and trusting relationship with the village that saw it grow and take its place among the world’s leading horological houses. In 2007, with a technical and aesthetic heritage that is second to none, Longines celebrated its 175th anniversary. This milestone provides Longines with an ideal opportunity to put its considerable achievements and demanding ambitions in perspective. This year Longines is proud to celebrate its 130 years of sports timekeeping. Its long-lasting involvement in sports started in 1878 with the first chronograph manufactured by Longines, the legendary 20H movement. Building on its in-house expertise, Longines gradually built a special relationship with the world of sport.
The Longines Conquest Heritage
The Conquest is a product which was first launched in 1954, a time when living life to the fullest was all important. Over the years, its striking design has been continuously modified to match prevailing trends and has established it as a firm favorite with watch lovers over the world. The Conquest Heritage models come in stainless steel and pink or yellow gold with the silver or black bezels.
The Longines Flagship Heritage
With its many technical firsts, the original Flagship was the pride of the collection when it came out in 1957. Its case back featured the image of a flagship, ready to sail the seven seas. The Flagship soon made its mark as the emblem of flawless fusion of technological excellence and understated elegance.
More than 50 years later, braving the winds of change, the Flagship is still going strong. Today three Flagship Heritage models are available from Longines in pink gold with a self-winding movement: a reissue of the original 1957 design, a classic chronograph and an all-new moonphase chronograph. Here again simple, sweeping lines salute a tradition of elegance. On the case back, as ever, the stamp of a flagship beckons the voyager.
Longines Clous de Paris
All models in the Longines Clous de Paris series, which is inspired by the artistic and architectural heritage of the Middle Ages, house self-winding mechanical movement. The name of the collection refers to the familiar decorative pattern. This pyramidal relief adorns the flanks of the stainless steel cases, as well as the matt-white dials of these sleek, elegant timepieces.
Les Elégantes de Longines
Thanks to the introduction of wristwatches in the early 20th century, requiring smaller movements with higher performances, watchmakers and designers could finally give free rein to their creativity. Watches, hitherto hidden in a pocket, became a fully visible accessory, an item of jewellery. Initially only worn by men, they were soon used to decorate the wrists of highly fashionable women too.
Even at this time Longines was esteemed for its watchmaking expertise and its artistic creations. It was with this spirit that it created a collection of marvellous jewelled watches, introducing watchmaking to art deco. With a rectangular or oval case in white gold, richly studded with diamonds, they were to make every woman’s dream come true.
True to tradition, the precious Les Elégantes de Longines trio-collection is enlivened by hand-wound manufactured mechanical movements dating from the 1970s. In order to fulfil the wish for the exclusive and the extraordinary, Les Elégantes de Longines make collectors’ pulses race by numbering these seductive jewelled watches limited to 20 pieces per model each year, ever since year 2001.
