HH Emir Trophy (Doha, Qatar)
Another regal event hosted by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian club (QREC) saw Longines elegantly fit into its role as official timekeeper. Subsequent to the partnership between the Swiss watchmakerand prominent equestrian club, Longines partnered the exciting H.H. the Emir’s Sword and H.H. the Emir’s Trophy presented by Longines that took place at the Rayyan racetrack on the 1st of March 2012.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, the race is one of the most-awaited events on the Qatar horse racing calendar. A thrilling affair, the event consisted of the Emir Sword, a 2400 m race that carries a prize money of QR 1,000,000 and H.H. the Emir’s Trophy presented by Longines with a prize money of QR 800,000. The winner of this 2400 m race for thoroughbreds is the horse Lancelot, owned by Umm Qarn, trained by Alban de Mieulle and ridden by French jockey Olivier Peslier.
Another highlight of the race meeting was the exciting Hat Contest held exclusively for the ladies in attendance. Open to all women wearing ready-made or home-made hats, the contest gathered 87 participants and crowned the ladies wearing the top three hats. The winner, Ms Tjarda Van Den Broek Humphreis, took home the glittering Longines DolceVita, a model in steel and gold set with diamonds. Ms Milady de Guiliani finished at the 2nd place and Ms Maria Quintana was ranked 3rd. Additionally, for the duration of the event, Sophie Papiernik, hatmaker from Maison Sophie Papiernik Paris, displayed her elite collection of hats at the REC venue.
Longines’ passionate involvement in the arena of equestrian sports is further enriched with the line-up of events taking place at QREC. Longines and QREC embarked on a strong partnership that sees the Swiss watchmakerbeing the official timekeeper for all equestrian events occurring at the club as well as the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.
