Longines Taiwan 180th Anniversary Celebration Charity Gala Dinner (Taipei, Taiwan)
On November 22nd, 2012, Longines Taiwan held its 180th Anniversary Celebration Gala Dinner at the Silks Palace at the National Palace Museum to commemorate the brand’s 180th birthday with VIPs, special guests, media, and the public. This year, to celebrate Longines 180th anniversary, Longines Taiwan also invited the top 10 winners from the Searching for the Oldest Longines in Taiwan competition to join the Gala Dinner as a way to express gratitude for the collectors’ support. The night’s charity gala dinner was celebrated with numerous festive activities and performances.
When guests first arrived, they were welcomed by Longines staff, and were ushered to the exhibition area of the mingle room. The exhibition area consisted of eight showcases that displayed Longines antique watches, including the winning watches from the Searching for the Oldest Longines in Taiwan competition, as well as antique watches from the Longines museum. Behind the watch display was a Longines Milestone backdrop. The backdrop marked of Longines glorious history on a timeline, featuring some of Longines most exciting pieces.
To begin the dinner, Longines Taiwan invited “In Theatre” dance group for an opening performance, River of Time, specially choreographed for Longines 180th Anniversary that includes both western modern dance elements as well as traditional Chinese water sleeve. Following a welcome address from Longines Vice President of Sales, Mr. Charles Villoz, Vice President of Longines Taiwan, Ms. Erica Chang, and Swatch Group Taiwan Branch Country Manager, Mr. Peter Szabo, a moving and exciting performance was brought by Taiwu Elementary School Folk Singers, a group that Longines Taiwan has long-term financially supported. A total of eleven children sang two songs in their native aboriginal language. Chiling Lin made her grand entrance into the gala dinner by joining in song with the Taiwu Folk Singers in the finale performance of the song “Joyful Heaven.”
To grandly celebrate Longines 180th anniversary, a cake cutting ceremony was held including Mr. Charles Villoz, Mr. Peter Szabo, Ms. Chiling Lin, and Ms. Erica Chang, in which the representatives also toasted to the attending guests.
While the guests enjoyed their delicacies, the night’s climax activity was the charity auction. The first auction item was the Longines Master Collection Watch with a Watch case signed by Longines Global Ambassador Aaron Kwok. The watch was auctioned at a starting price of NT$80,000, and was bid at a final price of NT$300,000, in which proceeds were donated to TECO Technology Foundation; the funds will be used solely for Taiwu Elementary School Folk Singers. The final auction included one giant tennis ball and two tennis racquets, all autographed by Longines Ambassadors of Elegance, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf. These three items were auctioned off at a grand total of NT$640,000, in which proceeds were donated to Chiling Charity Foundation. Mr. Charles Villoz and Ms. Erica Chang made their closing remarks, expressing their gratitude, to end the evening.
