Hong Kong, 9th December 2012 – Longines was proud to be for the first time the Title Sponsor and Official Timekeeper of the prestigious Longines Hong Kong International Races. Sha Tin Racecourse was packed with a record crowd of 70,000 racing enthusiasts who witnessed thrilling races. The day was brightened up by the presence of Longines Ambassadress of Elegance Kate Winslet. The British movie star also rewarded the owner, trainer and jockey of California Memory, winner of the prestigious Longines Hong Kong Cup with Longines timepieces.
At Sha Tin Racecourse, the Longines Hong Kong International Races provided an exciting climax to the horseracing year. This raceday is one of the most prestigious in the international calendar with four International Group 1 races. Total prize money of HK$72 million makes the Longines Hong Kong International Races one of the most lucrative horseracing events anywhere on the globe and explains why this year again it attracted many of the best jockeys and horses from all over the world. The Longines Hong Kong Cup (2000m) was won by California Memory under jockey Matthew Chadwick a product of the Hong Kong Jockey Club apprentice training program. Red Cadeaux, trained by Ed Dunlop, triumphed in The Longines Hong Kong Vase (2400m) whereas Lord Kanaloa got the victory in the Longines Hong Kong Sprint. The Longines Hong Kong Mile was taken by Ambitious Dragon under Zac Purton. All the winning owners, trainers and jockeys have been awarded Longines timepieces by Ms. Kate Winslet, Longines Ambassadress of Elegance, Mr. Walter von Känel, President of Longines, Mr. Kevin Rollenhagen, Managing Director of The Swatch Group Hong Kong, Mr. Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President & Head of International Marketing of Longines and Ms. Karen Au Yeung, Vice President of Longines Hong Kong.
Earlier in the day, Ms. Kate Winslet, Longines Ambassadress of Elegance, inaugurated the Longines Flagship Store at Lockhart Road. Kate Winslet cut the ribbon with Mr. Kevin Rollenhagen, Managing Director of The Swatch Group Hong Kong, Mr. Walter von Känel, President of Longines, and Ms. Karen Au Yeung, Vice President of Longines Hong Kong. For the grand opening of this new Longines Flagship Store in Hong Kong, the VIP guests took part in the eye dotting ceremony to wish the store a great success.
