The ‘Longines Grosser Preis von Baden 2013’ (Iffezheim, Baden Baden, Germany)

The traditional Swiss watch brand Longines was, for the third time, the title partner and official timekeeper at the ‘Longines Grosser Preis von Baden’ event today, 1 September 2013. 16,900 spectators cheered on the jockeys as the big winner of the day, Eduardo Pedroza riding Novellist, scooped the 250,000 euro prize in an exciting race. There were beaming smiles off the track in Iffezheim/Baden-Baden too, where the most elegantly dressed lady to the racecourse was awarded the ‘Longines Prize for Elegance’ and was presented with an exquisite Longines DolceVita women’s watch.

The ‘Longines Grosser Preis von Baden’ played host to equestrian sport at the highest level: 16,900 spectators followed this eagerly anticipated contest feverishly from the stands. During the exciting race, Eduardo Pedroza riding Novellist fought off the competition, delighting the audience in Iffezheim/Baden-Baden. Andrea Atzeni on Seismos came home in second place, ahead of Mirco Demuro riding Meandre.

True to the Longines’ slogan of ‘Elegance is an attitude’, the Swiss watch brand together with hat couturier Olivier Maugé and organiser Baden Racing sought out the most elegant lady at the Iffezheim racecourse on Sunday. The jury picked a winner and presented her with the ‘Longines Prize for Elegance’ and a beautiful women’s watch from the elegant Longines DolceVita collection. The award went to Nina Laue from Frankfurt who impressed the jury with her hat creation.

The Swiss watch brand has a long-standing tradition in equestrian sport: its passion dates back to 1878 when the brand first produced a chronograph featuring an engraving of a jockey and horse. The model was very well-received thanks to its split-second accuracy, and not just among jockeys and horse enthusiasts. From this point on, the brand began to develop its commitment to this discipline further and from 1926 adopted the role of official timekeeper and partner to equestrian sport. Today Longines is active in the disciplines of show jumping, flat racing and endurance.

At this year’s ‘Grosser Preis von Baden’ in Iffezheim, Longines presented ‘Conquest Classic’, a collection which is a tribute to the chronographs produced from 1881 on for race-goers and jockeys in New York. The finest materials paired with top quality Swiss automatic movements form the core of what this watch brand has represented for almost two centuries: tradition with obligation.
