Oleg Menshikov - Longines Ambassador of Elegance

Oleg Menshikov

Universally acclaimed as the best Russian actor of his generation, Oleg Menshikov was born in 1960 in a small town near Moscow. When he was still at school he used to put on small shows and it was only natural that he went to drama school from a young age which led to a success career in show business. He started his stage career in 1981 in Moscow and acted in Caligula and N at the Maly Theatre. His performance in “When She Danced”, opposite Vanessa Redgrave, in London won him the Laurence Olivier Award in 1992. The play was also performed in Paris, with Anny Duperey starring opposite Menshikov. In 1995 he founded the 814 Theatre Association aimed at supporting young, gifted actors who are as yet unknown. Menshikov then went on to play in great classical pieces such as The Players by Gogol as well as contemporary plays such as The Kitchen. On the silver screen, two films really made Menshikov’s name: Deceptive Sun and The Barber of Siberia. Menshikov subsequently came back to France to star in Régis Warnier’s film Est-Ouest. Show business recognised the Russian actor’s talent a long time ago – in Russia of course, but also on the International scene, since he was awarded the French Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Oleg Menshikov has been lending his charm and elegance to Longines as one of the brand’s ambassadors since 2001.
