Longines and Badminton: Asian tradition linked to Swiss tradition

Among all the racket sports, Badminton also has a rich and long history! Poona was played by the British army officers stationed in India in the mid-19th century, before it became “Badminton” once it was brought back to Europe. The first Badminton associations then started appearing in Europe. The sport grew, few national associations were created, but nothing evolved in Asia. A meeting of the various existing national associations in 1934 built up the International Badminton Federation which happened to fix new rules and laws to the sport. It was then exported back to its roots continent, Asia.
Badminton requires the same effort in rigor and precision than watch manufacturing. It is one of the common points that drove Longines to become an official partner of the Indian Badminton Association. The beginning of this collaboration started with a major event: the 2009 World Championships in Hyderabad. It will continue with several competitions for the next three years throughout India.
