180 years of tradition and elegance.
Timepieces that celebrate the birthplace of the legend that is Longines.
Like the market town of Saint-Imier which saw its birth, Longines has developed through determination and a close attachment to time. The company has indeed made a major contribution towards the identity and reputation of this thousand-year old settlement. The name Longines is based on the site on the banks of the River Suze that the founder chose for setting up a factory which would be the start of a legend, constantly revitalised, with a capacity for innovation that is today an essential part of Longines’ 180 years of tradition and elegance.
This 180th anniversary commemorates the opening of the trading office which Auguste Agassiz joined in 1832. Under the system of établissage which was standard practice at the time, the watchmakers worked at home. Ernest Francillon, Agassiz’s nephew, took over the trading office in the 1850s. He soon planned to build a factory in order to improve production methods, and this plan came to fruition
in 1867 with the creation of the Longines factory.
With its winged hourglass trademark, Longines quickly gained prestige, know-how and audacity, qualities which Longines is celebrating this year through a series of exceptional commemorative models. The Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph 180th Anniversary, available in rose gold or steel, recalls the brand’s long-standing involvement in timing and the world of sport. As for the Longines Lépine 180th Anniversary, this watch takes fervent admirers of horlogical perfection back to the very source of Longines’ know-how.
