What makes this timepiece exceptional

Longines started making rectangular watches at the beginning of the 1910s. Cases in this shape are inextricably linked with the brand name. They were especially fashionable in the 1920s and 1930s, when they filled whole pages in catalogues. The current Longines DolceVita collection is rooted in this heritage, illustrated here by this original timepiece with its external railway minute circle and small seconds.

This quintessence of elegant watchmaking is an exceptional condition given its production date of 1937. The rectangular shape of the case is echoed by the beautiful, rectangular movement. Today, form movements are the exception rather than the rule. Under the dial of rectangular watches you will find today most often round mechanical movements or battery-driven quartz movements. Not so in this model: It is powered by a true mechanical form movement, manufactured by Longines.
