The top hat: quintessentially British with a French twist!
As the Royal Procession makes its way along the famous green track at the Ascot racecourse, men in the stands, one by one, take off their top hats and bow their heads. It is a ritual nearly as old as the Berkshire racecourse, which was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, and one of a kind, as there is no other place in the world where that many men will wear a top hat to a sporting event.

Uniform style – nobody
does it better
than the Italians
The link between the military and equestrian sport has been diminishing in most countries in recent years, but the tradition of support from the armed forces for their sportsmen and women lives on in Italy, where competing in uniform continues to be a real badge of honour. And their equestrian athletes wear those uniforms with great success and exceptional style.
“I learned about their history, traditions and values, and those values became my values.
The more I went on the more I felt that I have to make them proud and give my best as a sportsman and as a human being. I am also aware that many of the things I did in my career have been possible only because they were backing me. My career and my life would have never been what they are if it were not for the Carabinieri”, says Stefano Brecciaroli.
