What makes this timepiece exceptional
Longines has been making rectangular watches since the early 1910s, a shape that is now synonymous with the brand's name. Rectangular watches took off in the 1920s and 1930s, taking up entire pages in catalogs. The current Longines DolceVita collection is part of this legacy, represented here by this original timepiece with an exterior railroad minute track and a small seconds hand.
This quintessential elegant watch is in an exceptional condition, especially given its year of production: 1935. The rectangular shape of the case echoes its sublime movement, which is also rectangular in shape. While shaped movements have become an exception rather than the norm nowadays (rectangular watch dials tend to feature round mechanical movements or battery-operated quartz movements), this is not the case with this model, which is powered by an original mechanical shaped movement manufactured by Longines.
