What makes this timepiece exceptional
Towards the end of the Second World War, the British Army ordered a special watch model from various manufacturers, including Longines. These timepieces became famous as WWW watches, for Watch, Wrist, Waterproof. The WWW watches were delivered to the British government from mid-1945 onwards and were intended to be used by special units: radio telegraphers, gunners and engineers.
This is a rare authentic military wristwatch used by the British Army, in an authentic and excellent condition. All these models have two serial numbers, stamped directly by the manufacturers: a civil number and a military number. The latter starts with a capital letter indicating the supplier (F for Longines) followed by a number comprising of one to five digits. All feature the Broad Arrow on the dial (below the name of the manufacturer).
In 2009, Longines re-issued the WWW model (L2.731.4.53.2/3), with a diameter of 38.50 mm. It proudly features the Broad Arrow on the dial, a symbol of its historical link with the British Crown.
