Longines Ski Ambassador Alex Vinatzer

As a new Alpine skiing season begun, the Swiss watch brand Longines is proud to announce the newest member of its Longines Family of talented young skiers. At 22, Alex Vinatzer has established himself as one of the world’s most exciting alpine skiers. In fact, the slalom specialist from Val Gardena in Italy’s Dolomites was named the Longines Rising Ski Star for the 2020/2021 season.

From strength to strength

In the years since, Alex has moved from strength to strength and the 2020/2021 season proved to be his best to date. He finished in 4th place in slalom at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Cortina and had four top ten World Cup performances, also in slalom. Furthermore, he was the youngest racer in the top 30 of the Slalom World Cup start list and the leader of the Italian slalom team. These achievements led to his being named “Longines Rising Ski Star”, which is awarded to the best young skier of the entire season. It was particularly impressive in light of the fact that Alex underwent an emergency appendectomy just before the season began!

Alex Vinatzer: “Thrilled to be part of the Longines Family”

Alex is thrilled to be part of the Longines Family. He says, “Longines is known to everyone in the international skiing community for its commitment to flawless timekeeping. Some great skiers are members of the Longines Family and I’m excited to be part of it.”
The collaboration with dynamic young stars like Alex Vinatzer reflects Longines long-standing involvement in alpine skiing. The brand is the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the FIS and has also been responsible for much of the innovative technology used on the slopes to time and record the performances of the world’s finest skiers.

An impressive start

Alex’s career started impressively. In the 2017/2018 season, he claimed the gold medal in the National Junior Championships in giant slalom and in the Junior World Championships, he won the silver in slalom and finished in fourth in the giant slalom. He also won two golds at the EYOF Youth Olympiad, enjoyed three podium finishes in FIS competitions and was ranked number one in his age group in both slalom and giant slalom. As if that weren’t enough, he also participated in the Pyeongyang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and was the youngest racer in the World Cup.
