The young Swiss prodigy of show jumping Bryan Balsiger joins the Longines Family

The Swiss watchmaking brand Longines is proud to announce that the young prodigy of show jumping Bryan Balsiger joins the Longines Family as a Friend of the Brand.

Born into a family of riders who runs an equestrian centre in Corcelles, Switzerland where he grew up, horse riding seemed an obvious choice for Bryan who took up the reins for the first time when he was just 5 years old. Having discovered a real source of inspiration from his family, today alongside his father who is also his trainer, Bryan is developing his career.

At the young age of 23, the talented rider already has an impressive track record of victories. After becoming the European Young Riders champion in 2017 in Samorin, Slovakia, he made his debut in the Elite category in 2018 and claimed victory at the Swiss Championship in Humlikon. He then joined the Swiss team the same year and took part in the Final of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations CupTM in Barcelona. The following year with the same team he won one of the qualifying stages of this competition in La Baule before achieving a memorable victory on Clouzot de Lassus at the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ in Oslo. These excellent results also allowed him to enter the Top 100 best riders of the Longines Rankings and qualify for prestigious Final of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ in Las Vegas, which unfortunately was unable to take place this spring.%break%

Bryan Balsiger comments: “I’m really proud to join the Longines Family. I am honoured to be associated with this brand, which is a major player in equestrian sports and an emblematic company in the region where I grew up. I’ll make sure to proudly represent Longines with its values of performance and precision that are essential to my life as an athlete.”

Longines and equestrian sports

The winged hourglass brand’s passion for the equestrian world dates back to 1869 with the release of its first pocket watch to feature a horse head. In 1912, the brand became involved with an international show-jumping competition in Portugal and almost a century later, in 2013, it became the first Fédération Equestre Internationale’s (FEI) Top Partner and Official Timekeeper. Today, Longines’ commitment to equestrian sports includes show jumping, dressage, combined driving, eventing and horse-racing events.

Fancy Blue is the new queen of the Prix de Diane Longines

The 171st edition of the Prix de Diane Longines held at the idyllic Chantilly racecourse on July 5th 2020, saw the triumph of Fancy Blue ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot. The French jockey claimed victory for the second consecutive year as he already took first place in 2019 with Channel. Second place was taken by Alpine Star and Stéphane Pasquier followed by Peaceful ridden by James Anthony Heffernan. The three winning fillies have one thing in common, all three are trained in Ireland.

As the Title Partner and Official Timekeeper of the event, Longines was proud to celebrate Fancy Blue’s performance by granting her owners, trainer and jockey with elegant timepieces.

The Official Watch of the 2020 Prix de Diane Longines

This edition of the Prix de Diane Longines was also an occasion for the brand to highlight the Longines DolceVita collection. Since its creation in 1997, this line has been an ode to the Italian sweet life. Soft and bright, warm and glamorous, like relaxing deep in thought on the terrace of a village square, strolling through the side streets of Rome, or enjoying a charming seaside respite. Inspired by a model from the 1920s and characterized by its rectangular case, this collection has grown over the years without ever losing its identity.

The Longines Heritage Classic – Tuxedo: a glimpse into the wild parties of the late 1940s

The Longines Heritage Classic – Tuxedo

Longines offers two new models inspired by historical pieces with the typical aesthetics of the regained freedom of the late 1940s. You can easily imagine it on the wrist of partygoers at jazz clubs. They have been nicknamed "Tuxedo" by collectors, the contrast of black and white on their dial reminds us of the suits worn during the elegant and festive evenings of the time.

To respect the spirit of the original models, Longines has chosen here not to add the word "Automatic" on the dials. In keeping with the aim to create timepieces that are as faithful as possible to historical timepieces, there is also no date window on contemporary models, which are presented on semi-matt black leather straps, perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the era.

The Longines Heritage Classic – Tuxedo is available in two versions: a 3-hand model and a chronograph model.

The former stands out for the aesthetics of its dial, a typical and very popular design from the 1940s. An opaline silver disc surrounded by a sublime matt black circle of thin baton hands covered with Super-LumiNova®. The small seconds counter, located at 6 o'clock, is off-centre: this detail contributes to the charm of this 38.50 mm-diameter timepiece housing the exclusive L893.5 movement with its silicon balance spring, a guarantee of quality and precision.

The chronograph version displays matt black, opaline and midnight blue, colours as elegant as they are refined. Several zones feature on its dial, and a tachymetric scale - quite rare for a Longines watch - also enriches its circumference, just like on the original model. The Longines Heritage Classic Chronograph - Tuxedo houses in its 40.00 mm-diameter case a movement (calibre L895.5) developed exclusively for Longines Heritage timepieces. It is also equipped with a silicon balance spring.

With its two new models in contrasting black and white, The Longines Heritage Classic - Tuxedo brings us back to a colourful era that brought back parties!

Longines celebrates Shanghai New World Boutique reopening with Ambassador of Elegance Zhao Liying

On Thursday, June 18th, Longines celebrated the reopening of its Shanghai New World Boutique with the presence of its Ambassador of Elegance, the Chinese actress Zhao Liying.

Located in the Shanghai New World department store, the renewed Longines Boutique spreads across 73 square meters and displays a large selection of timepieces, including the most iconic watches of the brand as well as its latest models.

On that occasion, the watchmaker and its Ambassador also unveiled an exhibition on the new Longines DolceVita collection, held next to the brand’s Boutique. Characterised by its rectangular case, the Longines DolceVita collection has grown over the years without ever losing its identity, inspired by the Italian sweet life. Zhao Liying took this opportunity to share her thoughts about the line: “I really love the interchangeable coloured straps, it allows to personalise your watch to suit different occasions or styles. The Longines DolceVita watches perfectly translate the elegance of each woman.”

The Longines Boutique is located at Shanghai New World Store, 1F No. 2-68 W. Nanjing Rd. Shanghai. Also held at the Shanghai New World Department Store, the Longines DolceVita exhibition is taking place from June 16-28.

Elegant and timeless, the Flagship Heritage dares to go black

Launched in 1957, the Flagship collection was one of the first lines to be named by Longines. The flagship flies the flag of the commander-in-chief of the fleet. With this resolutely conquering name, the collection would go on to become a crown jewel for the winged hourglass brand from the 1950s onwards. Initially intended for men, these watches also enjoyed great success with female customers.

Today, Longines revisits this timeless, unisex design by drawing inspiration from a rare model with a black dial from 1957, which is particularly prized by collectors. Combining technical expertise and elegance, the new all-black Flagship Heritage will appeal to all vintage watch enthusiasts.

This timepiece is equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement (L615) and includes a stainless steel case with a diameter of 38.50 mm. A characteristic feature of the collection, the case also features bevelled, inward-pointing horns, which gives the piece a refined and stylish silhouette.

Faithful to the design of the original watch, this model unveils a black lacquered domed dial with a polished finish, accentuated by applied indexes in the shape of faceted trapezoids. Located at 6 o’clock, the date is indicated by an off-centre small seconds counter and the “Flagship” inscription, both emblematic of the watchmaking aesthetics of the 1950s. The dolphin-shaped hands enhance this understated composition, encased in an anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

An emblem of the collection, a golden caravel decorated with blue enamel is engraved on the screw-down case back. The model is presented on a black leather strap decorated with fine beige stitching and equipped with a pin buckle.

This new variation completes the Flagship Heritage line, which until now consisted of a steel version with a cream dial, as well as a limited series launched for the collection’s 60th anniversary, celebrated in partnership with the brand’s Ambassador Kate Winslet.
