Although impacted by the global pandemic, the 2020/2021 FIS Alpine World Cup season saw some great performances from the world's best athletes, including members of the Longines Family.

 

Longines would like to congratulate Marco Odermatt and Loïc Meillard, who finished second and fourth on the overall FIS World Cup ranking for 2020/2021, a worthy recognition of their talent. Marco has stepped up to the podium no less than ten times this season, with three of them being in the top spot (two victories in giant slalom and one in super-G). This flawless track record saw him finish second in the giant slalom ranking and second in the super-G ranking.

 

Loïc Meillard ended his highly successful World Cup season with thirteen Top 5 positions, including second place in Kranjska Gora and third in Adelboden for the giant slalom.

 

The most recent arrival to the Longines Family is Clément Noël from France, who finished the FIS World Cup season by standing on the second step of the podium in his specialist sport, slalom, a discipline that has already seen him bring home two victories this season in Kranjska Gora and Chamonix.%break%For the women's division, the Longines Ambassador of Elegance Mikaela Shiffrin finished in second place in the slalom and giant slalom category, after two victories in Flachau and Jasna for the slalom and one victory in Courchevel for the giant slalom.

 

The FIS World Cup Finals are also an opportunity for Longines to showcase the White Circus' young talents by handing out the Longines Rising Ski Star award, a price that rewards the World Cup season's best young male skier (under 23) and best female skier (under 21). The brand was also delighted to award a Longines watch, a trophy and a cheque to Alex Vinatzer (ITA) and Alice Robinson (NZL), who both received this award for the second year in a row.

As Official Main Partner and Timekeeper of this world-class event, Longines was delighted to time the stunning performances of the world's best skiers and particularly, its Ski Athletes. Four medals for the American prodigy Mikaela Shiffrin and two for Swiss brilliant skier, Loïc Meillard.

The 2021 FIS Alpine Ski Championships came to an end on Sunday in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. Known as the "Queen of the Dolomites", the small town of the Northern province of Belluno In Veneto welcomed, for two exciting weeks of sports performances, the best skiers of the world.

During the fifteen days of breathtaking competitions gathering the best riders from all over the world, Longines timed and witnessed great sports achievements. The brand seizes the opportunity to warmly congratulate its Longines Athletes Mikaela Shiffrin and Loïc Meillard, who have succeeded in winning a total of six medals.

On the first hand, Mikaela Shiffrin whose success is only equalled by her incredible talent, reigned supreme in the women’s alpine combined. She took silver at the women's giant slalom and completed this impressive  performance with two bronze medals  in the super-G and slalom.

On the other hand, Swiss 24-year-old talented skier Loïc Meillard's hard work came to fruition with two bronze medals: one in men's alpine combined and another in men's parallel.

Longines was also pleased to cheer up Swiss ski racer Marco Odermatt, who earned a well deserved fourth place at the men's downhill.

Last but not least, Longines witnessed the great performances of its ski slalom athletes, the newly appointed France's Clément Noël and the Switzerland’s Mélanie Meillard.

Ready, steady… go! With only one year to go until the next FIS Alpine World Ski Championships scheduled from 7th to 21st February 2021 in Cortina, many sports, mountain and ski lovers all over the world are looking forward to embarking on this thrilling adventure.

A brand-new digital clock, designed by Fondazione Cortina 2021 and provided by Longines, Official Main Partner and Timekeeper of the World Championships, will mark the countdown to the international event. In the meanwhile, Cortina is getting ready to host the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals.

 

The countdown clock located in Piazza Dibona – the same square that this March will host the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals bib draw ceremonies – was unveiled today at 6.30 p.m. in the presence of Gianpietro Ghedina, Mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Valerio Giacobbi, CEO of Fondazione Cortina 2021, and Kristian Ghedina, Cortina 2021 Ambassador, together with the stakeholders, the partners, the townspeople and the media.

 

The Longines Clock will count down the days, hours and minutes to the international event, and will hit zero on Sunday 7th February 2021, right before the opening ceremony. For all this time, the clock – placed inside an installation that depicts the unique skyline of the Ampezzo Dolomites – will show the countdown to all those walking along Corso Italia. %break%

 

“The countdown to the World Championships has officially started today”, stated Valerio Giacobbi, CEO of Fondazione Cortina 2021. “The Longines Clock located in Piazza Dibona will be a special attraction for the townspeople and the tourists, who’ll get more and more excited as we get closer to the World Championships, but also for our partners, who really add value to this wonderful experience. During the next 365 days, we will continue to work hard to meet the great challenge that awaits us”.

As the Official Timekeeper of the Hahnenkamm races taking place in Kitzbühel this weekend, the Swiss watch brand Longines was proud to present the top-3 winners of the FIS Alpine World Cup Super-G, Downhill and Slalom races with elegant Longines timepieces.

On Saturday took place the Kitz Charity Trophy supported by Longines, a charity race where professional skiers compete against celebrities on a section of the Streif piste, to the benefit of the farming families in North, East and South Tyrol.

The Swiss watch brand Longines was proud to time the 2020 edition of the Longines Future Hahnenkamm Champions race, held in the context of the legendary FIS Alpine World Cup leg in Kitzbühel.  This year, Team Tirol claimed the coveted title, while Team Austria 2 and Team Austria 1 finished second and third respectively. As a recognition for the great performance, each member of the winning team received a Longines timepiece.

In total, eight mixed teams of athletes aged under 16 years old took part in this event, comprising a giant slalom and a slalom race.

As the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the FIS, Longines was proud to present the Top-3 skiers of the three races taking place this weekend in Wengen, with elegant Longines timepieces. On Friday, Austria’s Matthias Mayer won the Alpine Combined race, while Switzerland’s Beat Feuz claimed his third World Cup victory in Downhill (2012, 2018 and 2020) in front of an ecstatic home crowd on Sunday. Rounding off the weekend, Clément Noël from France won the Slalom event, marking his second victory in the discipline this season.
