Longines Future Tennis Aces 2018

As the Title Partner of the “Roland-Garros Junior Wild-Card Competition by Longines”, the Swiss watch brand Longines, together with the French Federation of Tennis, officially awarded a wild-card entry to the winners of this unique international competition. On May 26, 2018, on one of Roland-Garros’ courts, Ana Paula Melilo and Mateo Reyes, both from Brazil, respectively defeated China’s Cao Xue (7-6, 6-2) and India’s Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (7-5, 6-4) and India’s Siddhant Banthia (6-3, 6-3) and China’s Zhou Xinmu (6-4, 6-2). As a reward for their great performance, the winners were presented with elegant Conquest Roland Garros timepieces, created by the Swiss watch brand as a tribute to the prestigious Parisian tournament.

For this 2018 edition, the competition was held in three countries: Brazil, China and India. The junior players qualified on clay-court in their home countries earlier this year, in matches run under the exact same conditions as for the Roland-Garros tournament. The qualifications took place from 12th to 15th April in Belo Horizonte, Brazil (at the Pampulha Iate Clube), from 23rd to 26th April in Nanchang, China (at the Zhongshang Tennis Club), and from 25th to 27th April in Delhi, India (at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association).

However, the competition is not finished yet for the winners. Indeed, they will now have access to the French Open Junior’s tournament, which will be held in Roland-Garros from 3rd June to 9th June 2018.

It has always been important for the Swiss watch brand to support and organize competitions that promote sporting activities among young people, along with the values of fair play, respect, integrity and enjoyment. Looking for the champions of tomorrow at the 2018 Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament

This year, the extraordinary surroundings of the Eiffel Tower will host the ninth edition of the Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament. It is the first time that the competition will bring together the girls and the boys, all aged under 13 years old, to take part in their respective tournament. They all have been selected by their tennis federation to represent their countries – Australia, Austria, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States – and will have the opportunity to compete on clay court under the same conditions of Roland-Garros, of which Longines has been the Official Partner and Timekeeper since 2007.

Prior to the tournament, the young players were able to practice on clay court over a two-day camp – the “Longines Academy” – coached by experienced players. Indeed, retired French tennis player Séverine Beltrame supervised the girls’ team with the support of Frédéric Décamps, while Belgium’s Christophe Rochus, also former professional tennis player, and Rémi Barbarin gave valuable advice to boys’ team to approach the upcoming matches in the best conditions. In addition to being an opportunity for these talented players to measure themselves at an international level, the 2018 Longines Future Tennis Aces winners will receive a Longines timepiece, as well as the tournament’s trophy. Last but not least, they will be granted an annual bursary until their sixteenth birthdays, and have the pleasure to take part in an exhibition match with Longines Ambassadors of Elegance Stefanie Graf and Andre Agassi, after the final, which take place on Saturday June 2nd.

About the Longines Future Tennis Aces Tournament

Through the Longines Future Tennis Aces, Longines is looking for the champions of tomorrow. This tournament, which mirrors the French-Open at Roland-Garros, is supported by the FFT (Fédération Française de Tennis). Every year since 2010, tennis players under the age of 13 compete in order to qualify for the final match, and then to play in a one-of-a-kind exhibition match. These promising young players from around the world are chosen with the help of their respective tennis federations. During the two days preceding the tournament, they are given an opportunity to attend the Longines Academy, where they can train on clay courts and receive technical advice from leading tennis experts. At the end of the tournament, the winner receives a trophy presented by the President of the FFT, Bernard Giudicelli, along with a Longines timepiece. Moreover, the two finalists receive an annual bursary until their sixteen birthdays.

The Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping celebrates its fifth anniversary

This evening, Longines was delighted to have presented the press with the thrilling programme for the 2018 Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping, which will take place from 5 to 7 July 2018. This competition, the tenth leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour, will bring together the best international riders and horses onto the Champ de Mars, with the emblematic Eiffel Tower in the background. Once again, the Swiss watch brand is proud to lend its name to this great five-star show jumping event and provide its timekeeping expertise for all the trials. For this fifth edition, Longines is looking forward to inviting spectators to enjoy a timeless moment riding its Carousel located in the Grand Village, open to the public.

In addition, Longines is thrilled to present the weekend’s highlight trial, the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Paris. This competition allows the riders to earn points in the overall rankings of the Longines Global Champions Tour and thus obtain a golden ticket for the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix, which will be held in December in Prague.

Longines will enjoy the presence of its Ambassador of Elegance, the stunning Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who will be wearing the Official Watch for the event, a lady model from The Blue Edition of The Longines Master Collection. This steel timepiece displays a sunray blue dial adorned with diamond indexes, and comes with a matching blue alligator strap. This fashionable chromatic variation is perfectly in line with the classic and understated spirit of this collection.

The Elegance of the heart

This year for the first time, Longines is proud to be the Title Partner of the Longines Eiffel Challenge. This competition, held in presence of the Minister of Culture Françoise Nyssen, will be for the benefit of the “Mission Bern” which aims at restoring the French heritage related to the watchmaking and equestrian world. The French President Emmanuel Macron has entrusted this mission to the famous radio host and television presenter Stéphane Bern, known as a passionate about history.

The Swiss watchmaking brand takes pride in its long tradition of supporting charity causes. It was thus natural for Longines to also give support to JustWorld International – a charity organisation that collects funds to help impoverished children – through the “Longines Clear The Jump” action, which will take place during Saturday evening's highlight trial: The Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Paris. Each time a horse and rider clears a Longines obstacle with no faults, the winged hourglass brand will offer 200 meals to the association. True to its slogan “Elegance is an Attitude”, Longines will take this opportunity to salute the heartfelt elegance that JustWorld has demonstrated over the years.
