This weekend, Louisville (USA) beat to the rhythm of horseracing. On Saturday, the Kentucky Derby, also known as “the most exciting two minutes in sports”, took place at Churchill Down. On that occasion, Country House, ridden by Flavien Prat, was declared the winner after disqualification for interference of Maximum Security. To mark their victory, Longines awarded Country House’s owner, trainer and jockey with Longines timepieces before an engaged crowd of spectators.
The Derby race represented the pinnacle of an exciting weekend of sport and elegance, with many highlights on and off the track. Earlier on Saturday, the Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile prize was claimed by Beau Recall, ridden by Irad Ortiz, who established a lead over Got Stormy and Daddy Is a Legend, close behind.
On Friday, Longines served as Title Partner, Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the Longines Kentucky Oaks, with an exciting win from Serengeti Empress, ridden by Jose Ortiz. The Longines Prize for Elegance also made an elegant spectacle from the most fashionably attired attendees at Churchill Downs, who worked the pink carpet in their finery, vying for the coveted Longines Prize for Elegance and the chance to win a Longines watch. A panel of judges, including Longines U.S. Brand President Pascal Savoy, selected the most elegant contestants, in keeping with the brand’s motto, “Elegance is an Attitude.”
