Longines Global Champions Tour of Monaco 2019

Longines was delighted to be back in the Longines Global Champions Tour of Monaco, which gathered this weekend the world’s finest riders and horses in the mind-blowing setting of the Port d’Hercule. As the Title Partner and Official Timekeeper of the series, the Swiss watch brand is proud to have timed the victory of Maikel van der Vleuten on Beauville Z in one of the weekend’s highlight trials, the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix du Prince de Monaco. Longines Vice President Sales, Mr. Charles Villoz, presented the Dutch rider with an elegant Longines timepiece as a reward for his performance.  This victory handed him the tenth golden ticket to the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix, where he will line up against the winners of the previous legs.

On Friday evening, Inigo Lopez de la Osa Franco and Laura Kraut earned first place at the Longines Pro-Am Cup, supported by Charlotte Casiraghi as the Patron of this competition. This trial allows an amateur and professional rider to compete together for the coveted title, with a focus on speed and agility. Longines participated in this competition with a team made up of Longines Ambassador of Elegance Jane Richard Philips and Julia Tops, Jan Tops’ daughter.

The spectators present at this equestrian event had the opportunity to discover the Official Watch, a model from the iconic HydroConquest collection. This line combines classic elegance and watchmaking excellence, both distinguishing hallmarks of the winged hourglass brand. Drawing inspiration from the fascinating world of water sports, the pieces from this collection display a bezel enhanced by a ceramic coloured insert, which matches the colour of the dial and brings them a modernized design and sporty silhouette.

Royal Ascot 2019

This week, the Ascot racecourse (UK) hosts one of the world’s most anticipated sports event of the year: the Royal Meeting. The Swiss watch brand Longines is honoured to take part in this prestigious horse racing rendezvous as its Official Partner, Official Timekeeper and Official Watch.

On Wednesday, 19 June, Longines had the pleasure to invite its Ambassador of Elegance Chi Ling Lin to experience the Royal Meeting’s unique atmosphere. Following the remarkable victory of Dashing Willoughby in the Queen’s Vase race, the acclaimed Asian actress, together with Longines Vice President Richard Strohmeier, presented elegant timepieces to the winning owners (Mick and Janice Mariscotti), trainer (Andrew Balding), jockey (Oisin Murphy), and groom (Angela Cheshire). Later on that day, the owner (Sir Evelyn and Lady Lynn De Rothschild), the trainer’s representative, the jockey (Frankie Dettori) and the groom (Corrado Morale) of Crystal Ocean, the winning horse of the Prince of Wales’ Stakes, also received elegant Longines watches from the hands of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

In line with the refinement of the Royal Meeting, Longines is proud to highlight the Official Watch of Royal Ascot, a steel and gold model from the Record collection. Combining classic elegance with watchmaking excellence, each piece in this line houses a movement including a single-crystal silicon balance spring with unique properties and is certified as a “chronometer” by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

Longines and the Equestrian Universe

Longines’ passion for the equestrian world dates back to 1869, when the brand produced its first equestrian pocket watch, displaying a proud horse head. A few years later, in 1878, Longines developed a chronograph movement, fitted in a case engraved with a jockey and his mount.  Seen on the racetracks as early as 1881, this type of timepieces proved extremely popular among jockeys and horse-lovers, as it enabled its user to time performances to the second. Today, Longines’ involvement in equestrian sports includes flat racing as well as show-jumping, dressage, driving and eventing competitions. Longines chose to support equestrian sports as a perfect illustration of its core values: tradition, elegance and performance.

Prix de Diane Longines 2019

The much-awaited Prix de Diane Longines, of which Longines was the Title Partner for the 9th consecutive year, saw the incredible victory of Channel and Pierre-Charles Boudot (FR) in the world’s biggest race for fillies. The Swiss watchmaking brand was delighted to present the owner, trainer and jockey of Channel with elegant timepieces from the hands of its Ambassador of Elegance Simon Baker. The acclaimed Australian actor joined the Longines Family in 2012 and was introduced as a new Longines Ambassador of Elegance during that year’s edition of the Prix de Diane Longines.

With no fewer than nine races to rhythm this prestigious and glamorous event, the Prix de Diane Longines offered great sports emotions for the delight of all equestrian lovers in attendance. As the Official Timekeeper of the event, Longines was particularly proud to be part of the Prix Longines Future Racing Stars and the Prix de la Reine Marie-Amélie Longines. The former is open to young jockey from riding schools across the world, while the latter showcases the female riders from the FEGENTRI (International Federation of Gentlemen and Lady Riders). French jockey Thomas Trullier riding Espionne set themselves apart in the Prix Longines Future Racing Stars and Tereza Grbavcicova (CZE) and her mount Bubble Brook crossed the finishing line first in the Prix de La Reine Marie-Amélie Longines. The brand had thus the great honor of granting both winners with an elegant Longines watch as well as a school bursary to the youngest winner.

On the occasion of the 170th edition of this equestrian rendezvous of elegance, the sumptuous Chantilly racecourse was adorned with colourful motifs of racing silks for the greatest pleasure of the elegantly dressed spectators. Together with its Partner France Galop, Longines organized the “Mademoiselle Diane by Longines” award, celebrating the most elegant lady at the racecourse. This year, Abigail Lopez-Cruz was selected by the jury as the winner and had the honour to receive an elegant timepiece belonging to the Record collection from the hands of Simon Baker.

The Record collection – the Official Watch of the 2019 edition

The Prix de Diane Longines was also the occasion for the brand to present a stainless steel and rose gold model of its Record collection as the Official Watch of the event. Combining classic elegance and watchmaking excellence, each piece in this line houses a movement including a single-crystal silicon balance spring with unique properties and is certified as a “chronometer” by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

Besides, this collection was celebrated in grand style on Saturday evening, during a special event held in the gardens of the sumptuous Château de Chantilly in the presence of Longines Ambassadors of Elegance and Hollywood stars Kate Winslet and Simon Baker. For this unique and exclusive event, Longines highlighted – on the wrists of its Ambassadors – a stainless steel and rose gold pair watch from the Record collection, which is perfectly in line with the philosophy of the brand to give its female and male customers a wide range of variations in all of its collections, enabling them to find the perfect fit for their taste and personality.
