Karis Teetan emerges victorious in the 2019 LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship

Mauritian jockey Karis Teetan shined tonight at Happy Valley racecourse (Hong Kong SAR), as he claimed the LONGINES International Jockeys' Championship title. Finishing ahead of Ryan Moore and Vincent Ho, Karis Teetan accumulated the biggest score in the four feature races of the evening, with 20 points in total. During the prize-giving ceremony, LONGINES was delighted to present the winner with an elegant timepiece.

As the Official Watch of the LONGINES International Jockeys' Championship, the brand highlighted a model from The LONGINES Master Collection. Powered by a new self-winding movement developed exclusively for LONGINES, these timepieces are characterised by a moon phase indicator and a refined aesthetic, creating a balance between technical excellence and classic elegance.

Later this week, the jockeys will once again be honoured with the “LONGINES World’s Best Jockey Award” ceremony, to be held during the LONGINES Hong Kong International Races Gala Dinner, on Friday December 6.

Finally, on Sunday December 8, the week will be rounded off with the LONGINES Hong Kong International Races, which include the LONGINES Hong Kong Vase, the LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint, the LONGINES Hong Kong Mile and the LONGINES Hong Kong Cup.

On Sunday, 24 November, the iconic Tokyo Racecourse, Japan, hosted the 39th edition of the Japan Cup in association with Longines. As the Official Partner and Official Timekeeper of this thrilling sport event, Longines was delighted to time the victory of Suave Richard, ridden by Oisin Murphy, in the feature race. The Japanese horse was followed by Curren Bouquetd’or, ridden by Akihide Tsumura, and Wagnerian, ridden by Yuga Kawada. The winning team was presented with elegant timepieces from the hands of Longines President, Walter von Känel, and Longines Vice President Marketing, Matthieu Baumgartner.

 

Established in Tokyo since 1981, the Japan Cup in association with Longines is a 2400 meters international Group 1 turf race for horses aged 3 years or older. The event is the biggest race in the country and belongs to the most prestigious ones in the world. 

 

The Japan Cup in association with Longines was a unique opportunity for the brand to highlight the Official Watch of the event, a new model from The Longines Master Collection. Longines to continue as Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course

Longines and the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), today announced the renewal of their partnership. The Swiss watch brand will continue to serve as the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course.

 

As part of this agreement, Longines will be designated as the Official Timekeeper, Official Watch and Preferred Partner of the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes, the centerpiece of the three-day Belmont Stakes Racing Festival held during the first weekend of June. First launched as a multi-day event in 2015, the 2019 Belmont Stakes Racing Festival included 18 stakes races over three days, including an unprecedented eight Grade 1 races on Belmont Stakes Day.

 

This partnership renewal also means that Longines will continue to serve as the Title Partner of the Grade 1 Longines Just A Game on Belmont Stakes Day as well as the Grade 1 Longines Test at Saratoga Race Course, which is contested on Whitney Day.%break%"We are especially proud to renew our collaboration with NYRA, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course, as Preferred Partner, Official Timekeeper and Official Watch,” said Longines Vice President Marketing, Matthieu Baumgartner. “Through these partnerships, our brand is honored to take an active part in Belmont Stakes Day and the Whitney Day. Swiss watch brand Longines served as the Official Partner, Official Timekeeper, and Official Watch of the 36th Breeders’ Cup World Championships, which took place on Friday 1  and Saturday 2 November in Santa Anita, CA (USA). On Saturday, Vino Rosso and his jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., galloped to victory in the Longines Breeders’ Cup. On the same day, Longines returned as the Title Partner of the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff, won by Blue Prize, as well as of the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf, won by Bricks and Mortar. The winning connections of these three races received elegant timepieces from the hands of Longines representatives.

 

The weekend was also marked by the much-awaited Longines Prize for Elegance, in keeping with the brand’s motto ‘Elegance is an Attitude’. Longines to extend its partnership with the Breeders’ Cup

Longines is proud to renew its collaboration with the Breeders' Cup, one of Thoroughbred horse racing's most famous international events.  As part of this new agreement, the Swiss watch brand becomes the Title Partner of the newly named Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic.

 

A brand that has been rooted in equestrian universe for 150 years, Longines has been an important Breeders’ Cup partner since 2014. Swiss watch brand LONGINES was proud to time today at Happy Valley racecourse the LONGINES Night Races, the much-awaited horseracing rendezvous which kicks off the LONGINES Hong Kong International Races week. Happy Time was led to victory by Australian jockey Zac Purton in the highlight and sixth race of the evening, the LONGINES Cup. The winning owner, jockey and trainer each received an elegant LONGINES timepieces, presented by Ms. Karen Au Yeung, Vice President of LONGINES Hong Kong.

During the event, the brand highlighted a ladies model from The LONGINES Master Collection, a line which blends classic elegance and excellence, for the greatest pleasure of watchmaking enthusiasts. This 29-mm steel model displays a sunray blue dial featuring diamond indexes and silvered polished hands. Fitted with an automatic movement, this elegant timepiece is complimented by a stainless steel bracelet.

LONGINES’ passion for equestrian sports dates back to 1878, when it produced a chronograph engraved with a jockey and its horse that could be used for precise timing to a second. As of 1881, this model was extremely popular among jockeys and horse-lovers, and was soon being used by most of the sports judges in New York. Today, LONGINES’ involvement in equestrian sports includes horseracing, show jumping, driving, eventing and dressage competitions.
