January 17, 2020

Four days of exciting competitions and exceptional performances for the Longines CSI Basel 2020

Longines is Official Partner, Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the FEI. The watch brand also is the Title Partner of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ - Western European League. At Sunday’s spectacular Swiss leg of this competition, the best combination was Steve Guerdat (SUI) on Victorio des Frotards who imposed themselves over Julien Epaillard (FRA) on Queeletta and Peiter Devos (BEL) on Apart respectively second and third. The winner was presented with an elegant Longines timepiece to celebrate her victory.

At the Longines Grand Prix on Friday, Steve Guerdat (SUI) on Victorio des Frotards also won the competition, followed by Denis Lynch (IRL) on GC Chopin‘s Bushi and Niels Bruynseels (BEL) on Illusionata van’t Meulenhof. On this occasion, Switzerland’s Mr Luigi Baleri, owner of the top ranked horse Clooney 51, was awarded the Longines Owner of the Year trophy for 2019. This award values the owners' involvement in the performance of show jumping horses.

The Official Watch of this year’s event is an elegant ladies’ model from the collection Conquest Classic, which skillfully combines modernity with the refinement that defines the brand. Elegant and sleek, these latest creations are both resolutely feminine and boldly contemporary. This 34 mm diameter model houses a quartz movement in its diamond-set steel case. Its sunray silver dial is adorned with 12 rose indexes.

Longines concluded an agreement with the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), based in Lausanne, which makes the Swiss watch brand the Federation's Main Partner, Official Timekeeper and Official Watch. As a result of this partnership, Longines became the Title Partner of Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Western European League, North American League and China League. These agreements and partnerships reinforce the brand’s traditional commitment in equestrian sports and make it a major player in this field. Longines has been associated with the equestrian world since its inception. The oldest known Longines watch decorated with equestrian motifs dates from 1869, and ushered in a handsome series of equestrian-themed pocket watches. The brand’s early ties with horses encouraged the watchmakers of Saint-Imier to pursue advances in sports timekeeping for equestrian competitions. In 1878, the winged hourglass brand developed its first chronograph movement, the legendary 20H. In addition, the Swiss watch brand was associated for the first time with a show jumping event in 1912. Today, Longines is passionately committed to the equestrian world and its various disciplines.
