Louisville, KY (USA) / St. Imier (Switzerland), May 4, 2018 – Swiss watchmaking brand Longines reprised its role as the Title Partner, Official Timekeeper, and Official Watch of the Longines Kentucky Oaks this year. Following an impressive victory in the Longines Kentucky Oaks race by Monomoy Girl ridden by Florent Geroux, Mr. Charles Villoz, Longines Vice President and Head of International Sales, joined the winning filly’s owner, trainer, and jockey in the winner’s circle, honoring them with a presentation of Longines watches in front of the enthusiastic spectators.
As the fourth most attended flat race in the United States, the Longines Kentucky Oaks has become a spectacle of elegance and performance in its own right. The day of sport and style celebrated female empowerment on the track, from the powerful 3-year old fillies who ran for the prize, to the women on the pink carpet at Churchill Downs, who turned out in their best for a chance to win the Longines Prize for Elegance. The panel of judges, which included reigning Miss America Cara Mund, selected the most elegant contestant amongst more than 100 participants. The winner was awarded the Official Watch of the Longines Kentucky Oaks, a blue model from The Longines Master Collection.
Presenting the Official Watches of the Longines Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby
The winning participant of the Longines Prize for Elegance received the Official Watch of the 2018 Kentucky Oaks, a 25mm watch model from the Longines Master Collection. The elegant watch made a fittingly sophisticated gift for the prize winner, with its contemporary Longines blue dial, glittering diamond indexes, and polished stainless-steel bracelet. Its self-winding movement and power reserve also ensure this Swiss-made Longines watch’s elegance is matched only by its precision and quality.
The Official Watch of the 144th Kentucky Derby is the Conquest V.H.P. model. This new “Very High Precision” model from Longines represents a new achievement in the field of quartz, combining great precision, high technicality, and a sporty look, marked by the brand’s unique elegance. This timepiece houses an exclusive movement, renowned for its high degree of precision for an analog watch (± 5 seconds/year) and its ability to reset its hands after an impact or exposure to a magnetic field. These attractive features are likely responsible for its exceptional movement status, to which a very long battery life and a perpetual calendar must be added.
